Univision 41 & Casa Puebla Set Up Missing Person Center; TV Station to Broadcast Photo Announcements in Search for Missing; Effort to Aid New York Terror Victims and Families
NEW YORK–(HISPANIC PR WIRE – BUSINESS WIRE)–Sept. 14, 2001–A televised campaign to aid persons caught in the Tuesday, September 11 terrorist attack on New York and their loved ones, has been launched by Spanish-language TV station Univision 41 (WXTV) here and Casa Puebla, a non-profit, New York based social service organization which aids Hispanics in the tri-state area.
The campaign, dubbed “Nueva York Unido” (New York United), is designed to help people whose loved ones are believed to be missing due to the terrorist attack, learn about their fates and whereabouts. It may also assist in reuniting with their loved ones attack survivors so seriously injured that they are unable to provide authorities with personal data. While the focus of Nueva York Unido is on Spanish-speaking people, all persons who feel that it may be of service to them are welcome to participate.
Univision 41 and Casa Puebla have established a missing persons center at Casa Puebla headquarters, 2710 Broadway (2 floor) in Manhattan between West 103 and West 104 Streets. It’s phone numbers are 212-531-0552, 212-531-0570, and 212-531-0064 (email: email@example.com). The center’s staff will include a video camera person, editor and a producer, all volunteers from Univision 41, as well as staff of Casa Puebla. Those who believe their loved ones were caught in the terrorist attack or its aftermath are encouraged to visit the center, bringing a recent photograph and details of their missing loved ones. The photographs and identifying information will be assembled into video announcements that will be seen on Univision 41 in station breaks during “Noticias 41″ (Channel 41 News, Univision 41′s local newscasts) and in sixty second public service announcements seen at various times during the day. The public service announcements will include contact information for people who may have news about the missing persons. The videos will be made available to rescue workers in an effort to identify both those who are saved and those who are found too late to be saved.
The missing person center is open 24 hours a day this weekend. After this weekend the center will operate from 8 am to 8 pm daily until its mission is accomplished.
Univision 41 is launching Nueva York Unido in part because it is one of only two, major New York TV stations not taken off the air by the attack on the World Trade Center. Unlike many other New York TV stations, Univision 41′s transmitter is located atop New York’s Empire State Office Building. Univision is the area’s only Spanish-language TV station not taken off the air by the disaster.–30–ad/ny*
